Pep Archive
Borrowing its name from the medical world, where pep stands for post-exposure prophylaxis, meaning a treatment or actions taken following exposure to a harmful life event. Pep Archive, is a series of documentaries, where protagonists attempt to heal from a piece of archive, an event that has been documented and which had a dramatic effect on their personal lives. The healing process is instigated by the protagonists rearranging, changing and sometimes, fictionalizing the archives, in order to process it and move on.

From the personal photo album of Palestinian photographer and cinematographer, Hani Jawherieh, El Hassan reconstructs the last five minutes of Hani Jawherieh’s life, who was killed while filming in the mountains in Lebanon. The five minutes were featured in Palestine in the Eye (1977) a film made by the Palestine Film Institute to commemorate the life of one of it’s founders. Yet, forty-two years later, what motivates these images takes on a different turn in The Place.
The dream sequence is a film sequence taken from Kings & Extras (2004), in which the filmmaker attempts to track the fate of the lost PLO film archives. When she fails to locates them she imagines what type of film she thinks can be in them: and that makes the dream sequence.
